Patriot Missile Air Defence System (MIM-104 Patriot)

Patriot Missile Air Defence System. it's a long-range, all-altitude, all-weather, air defence system. is a surface to air missile (SAM) system. Patriot Missile Air Defence System is manufactured by the Raytheon Company. Patriot Missile Air Defence System have been sold to many counties in the world such as Taiwan, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Germany, Japan, Kuwait, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates, and Spain. This missile can defeats advanced threats, including aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and UAVs

Patriot uses an advanced aerial interceptor missile and high performance radar systems. the major functional functions that MIM-104 Patriot has are communications, command and control, radar surveillance, and missile guidance. the combinatin of those four functions provides integrated, mobile air defense system.

MIM-104 Patriot is modular and highly mobile. all the components are trailer-mounted. the components are radar set, engagement control section, antenna mast group, electric power plant and launcher. so mobile that quite possible to launch this missile every where.

MIM-104 Patriot fire control section,

consisting of the AN/MPQ-53 or -65 Radar Set, the AN/MSQ-104 Engagement Control Station (ECS), the OE-349 Antenna Mast Group (AMG), and the EPP-III Electric Power Plant.

  • The AN/MPQ-53 and AN/MPQ-65 Radar Set
is a passive electronically scanned array radar equipped with IFF. electronic counter- countermeasure (ECCM), and TVM guidance subsystems. These radar is unique. A single unit performs all search, identification, track, and engagement functions.

  • The AN/MSQ-104 Engagement Control Station
The main sub-components of the Engagement Control Station are the Weapons Control Computer (WCC), the data link terminal (DLT), the communications array, the Routing Logic Radio Interface. The Engagement Control System is fully shielded to against electronic interferences.
  • The OE-349 Antenna Mast
GroupOE-349 Antenna Mast Group. includes four 4 kw antennas in two pairs on remotely controlled masts. Mounted at the base of each pair of antennas two high power amplifiers associated with the antennas and the radios collocated shelter. It is through these antennas that the ECS and ICC send their respective UHF "shots" to create PADIL nerwork.
  • The EPP-III Electric Power Plant
EPP-III diesel-electric Power Plant (EPP) is the power source for the ECS and radar. EPP consist of two kilowatt diesel engines with 400Hz generators that are interconnect through the power distribution unit. The generators are mounted on a modified M977 HEMTT. Each EPP has 75-gallon fuel tanks and a fuel distribution assembly with grounding equipment. Each diesel engine can operate more than a fuel distribution assembly with grounding equipment. Each diesel engine can operate more thatn 8 hours with a full fule tank. The EPP delivers its power to the radar and ECS through cables stored in reels alongside the generators

TVM in patriot missile
the patriot missile is equipped with a track-via-missile (TVM) guidance system. Midcourse correction commands are transmitted to the guidance system from the mobile engagement control centre. The target acquisition system in the missile acquires the target in the terminal phase of flight and transmits the data using TVM downlink via the ground radar tothe engagement control station for final course correction calculations. The course correctioncommands are transmitted to the missile via missile track command uplink.
